The new technology makes it possible to control various options through a virtual display, where buttons can be activated with gestures in the air, without touching the surface at all.
A special camera tracks hand movements and simulated presses, then transmits a signal to execute the desired command. The creators also announce an unusual tactile response when interacting with imaginary keys.
More details about the BMW HoloActive Touch system will become known after its presentation, which will take place in early January at the CES exhibition.
