The German authorities plan to legislate the requirement for installing devices similar to aviation flight recorders in cars equipped with autonomous driving systems.
According to Reuters, the initiative belongs to the head of the German Ministry of Transport, Alexander Dobrindt. It is expected that before the end of the summer period, the project will be submitted for approval to the relevant departments.
Such recorders will capture all parameters of the vehicle's movement. In particular, they will store information about the moments when steering was in human hands and when it was transferred to automation.
In addition, the driver of such a car will be prohibited from leaving their seat in order to maintain the ability to immediately intervene in the driving process in the event of an emergency.
