According to a statement by Toyota Motor, the automatic emergency braking system will be available on almost the entire Toyota and Lexus model range by the end of 2017.
It is important to note that this significantly ahead of the deadlines that other major automakers have set for themselves. Earlier, AvtoPortal reported that 22 companies signed an agreement according to which, from 2022, such a system should become standard equipment on all new cars.
The operation of this system is based on the fact that the car stops independently if the driver does not reduce speed when dangerously approaching a vehicle ahead. However, it should be taken into account that the autonomous braking function is designed for driving at low speeds — no more than 30–50 km/h.
