The concept of an "autonomous VIP taxi" first picked up actor Daniel Brühl, and then delivered him along with his friend to the red carpet of the Theater at Potsdamer Platz. As reported by representatives of the German company, the car navigated using a mass of sensors and cameras, as well as GPS.
The unmanned vehicle was an extended A8 L W12 sedan. Interestingly, the car is programmed for the smoothest possible movement, without sharp accelerations or braking. Upon arrival, the somewhat stunned movie star said it was something else, and the car's ability to deliver him comfortably impressed him greatly.
"We have already proven that we can take an autonomous car onto a race track or autobahn. Now we have handled the complex city traffic on the way to the Berlinale with the greatest ease," noted Audi engineer Stefan Knirsch.
