The largest Chinese automakers have acquired a patent for the production and manufacture of plastic car wheels, owned by the German concern BASF.
Wheels created using special technology are distinguished by increased reliability compared to conventional metal counterparts, while their mass is significantly lower.
The new product was first presented on the concept car smart forvision. Engineers at BASF developed a high-strength plastic with reinforcing fibers that is resistant to temperature and chemical influences, and also allows reducing the weight of each wheel by 3 kilograms.
