Autogas in Ukraine in October 2026 rose in price on average to UAH 44.95/l, while A-95 costs about UAH 89.20/l. LPG is still roughly twice as cheap, but further price growth will soon reduce the savings for owners of LPG systems.

Autogas at UAH 45 still allows saving on LPG systems

A gas-powered car consumes approximately 15-20% more fuel. If a petrol car uses 8 l/100 km, at an A-95 price of UAH 89.20 the trip will cost UAH 713.6. On LPG, at a consumption of 9.6 l/100 km and a price of UAH 44.95 - about UAH 431.5.

The difference is approximately UAH 282 for every 100 km. With the cost of a fourth-generation LPG system at UAH 20,500-31,800, the theoretical payback of the equipment is about 7,500-11,000 km.

“Since the consumption of liquefied gas is physically 15-20% higher than petrol consumption, the net benefit directly depends on the price difference on the filling station price board,” notes the author of the material, Oleksii Astapov.

LPG systems stop saving when the gas price is around UAH 55

The critical ratio is considered to be when LPG costs 62-65% of the price of A-95. At the current cost of petrol, this is approximately UAH 55-58/l. Taking into account additional costs, the savings from gas then approach zero.

Short trips also reduce the benefit. The engine starts on petrol and switches to LPG after warming up to approximately 40°C. On routes lasting 10-15 minutes, the share of petrol in total costs increases.

An LPG system requires maintenance approximately every 10,000 km, in particular replacing filters and checking the injectors. With an annual mileage of less than 10,000 km, installing a new system becomes less advisable, whereas at 20,000-30,000 km per year the economic effect remains.
