In the world ranking that for the first time assesses the contribution of brands to social and environmental initiatives through sports, it was Nissan that was recognized as the best among automakers. The company was noted for its support of sustainable development in the transport industry. According to the compilers of the ranking, Nissan is actively working to create a fairer society, minimize environmental harm related to sports, and develop the sports sector through projects that use sports to achieve socially beneficial goals.
The role of Nissan in the Formula E racing series, which the company uses as a platform for testing future technologies, was particularly highly rated. Participation in these competitions, which use exclusively electric-powered cars, drew attention to the brand's activities and encourages buyers to choose electric vehicles. Also noted was the Nissan project implemented at the Johan Cruyff Arena stadium in Amsterdam, where the Ajax football club plays its matches. Together with partners, the company used old batteries from electric cars to create one of the largest electricity storage systems in Europe at this facility.
The ranking also recognized Nissan's work towards achieving the UN's sustainable development goals. The company has set itself the goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050. In addition, Nissan plans to switch all new cars on key global markets to electric power as early as the early 2030s. An important role is also played by the Nissan Green Program 2022, which provides a long-term strategy to reduce the use of primary resources to 70% of materials in each car.
Yoji Tagawa, Nissan's Director of Sustainability, commented on this event: "We are very grateful to the Laureus Sport for Good index for recognizing our actions aimed at reducing negative impact on nature and creating a positive contribution for people and the planet. Nissan is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and we recently announced a long-term strategy that should improve conditions for mobility and other areas. It is based on sustainable development, and we are implementing various initiatives in all areas of our activities to make the world cleaner, safer, and more inclusive."
Another testament to Nissan's aspirations to become a truly sustainable company is the long-term plan Ambition 2030. This strategy is designed to strengthen efforts to create a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive future for mobility for all.
