In some cases, it is much more reasonable to look for a used car on the auto marketplace to replace it with another one in a couple of years.

What to pay special attention to, how to read an ad correctly, and what to be sure to ask the owner before signing the contract — explains Besplatka.ua

  • Price. Don't invest all your savings in a used car or take out a loan. There is a risk that the car will stop running, and you will still have to pay off the loan. Feel free to negotiate and consider different options within your budget. Experts advise keeping about 10% of the car's cost in reserve for possible breakdowns or repairs.
  • Age and mileage. A mileage of up to 60 thousand kilometers is considered a good indicator. However, if you have to choose between a newer car with high mileage and an older one with lower mileage, it is better to prefer the latter. For example, working as a taxi wears out a car faster than keeping it in a garage.
  • Operating conditions. Before the deal, be sure to check the service book. How the owner treated the car directly affects its current condition. It is better to refuse such examples, even if the price is very attractive — repairs will cost more money.
  • Road surface. Constant driving on broken country roads or smooth asphalt in the city — this greatly affects the wear of key components. Ask the owner where they most often had to drive.
  • Maintenance costs. Some cars, not only due to a powerful engine but also due to certain malfunctions, may require serious investments. Sometimes, looking at service receipts, it is wiser to buy a new car. Inquire about expenses not only from the seller but also from owners of similar models.
  • Characteristics. There is a huge selection on the market now. Decide in advance how much you are willing to spend on maintenance and whether you need extra power for everyday trips. There are always affordable and reliable options in the base configuration.
  • Safety. This includes not only airbags and seat belts but also, for example, hill-start assist or anti-slip regulation. The richer the active protection, the calmer you will be.
  • Service and spare parts. The Ukrainian market allows you to choose both mass-market and rare models. But when buying an exclusive, keep in mind: finding parts or authorized service may be difficult and costly.
  • Condition check. Before signing, arrange for diagnostics at a service station — the ad may not tell the whole truth. If the owner does not want to go to the service, they may be hiding serious faults.
  • VIN and numbers. The seller is obliged to provide vehicle data upon request so that you can check, for example, whether it is stolen or has other legal complications. If they refuse, it is better not to take risks, even if the price is tempting.
  • Documents. Ask to send photos of the original car documents. If there are only copies or something is missing, the car is likely stolen, or it is not the owner but a reseller.
  • Reviews and ratings. Before choosing a model, study ratings — both general and by individual criteria, such as safety or engine output. Rely on trusted sources and professionals. It is better to look for owner opinions on specialized forums — there you will learn about typical ailments and nuances.

When the chosen model has been checked on all points and the purchase seems justified, it is time to find the car itself. A convenient way is an online platform where you won't have to freeze outside while talking to the seller. There are both specialized sites and classifieds boards, for example, Besplatka.ua, where offers for selling used cars are published. Internet services, besides comfort, allow you to filter ads by year, price, and model, which saves time.

Take the car search seriously — and the choice will definitely not disappoint!
