The long-time bestseller currently ranks second in the European market in the compact car segment, as well as second in Germany and other significant markets. Since this year, Astra has managed to take first place in its segment in the Netherlands. Its technological features include Opel OnStar, a driver assistance system and service assistant, as well as IntelliLux LED® matrix headlights, which provide constant and anti-glare high beam – all these advantages have been recognized in numerous international awards, such as the "Golden Steering Wheel" and "European Car of the Year 2016".
Bestseller: Opel Eye front camera, Navi 900 IntelliLink navigation system and AGR seats
This number of Opel Astra orders speaks to the outstanding reputation of high-tech solutions. Almost 60 percent of all buyers decide to install the Opel Eye front camera, which, in combination with driver assistance systems, allows not only to enjoy driving but also to feel safer behind the wheel of the Astra. Driver assistance systems include traffic sign recognition, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist, Following Distance Indication, as well as Forward Collision Alert with Autonomous Emergency Braking. The latter system actively helps to avoid or mitigate a rear-end collision. If the gap becomes below the safe distance, the system warns the driver with a loud audible signal, a visual warning on the instruments combined with an LED projection on the windshield. Autonomous Emergency Braking is also activated in the event of an impending collision. Lane Keep Assist sends the driver an audible and visual warning if he unintentionally leaves the lane, and gently corrects the direction of travel, returning the car to the lane. The Following Distance Indication system continuously calculates the distance to vehicles moving ahead. This value is displayed in seconds. A stylized green car on the instrument screen symbolizes the vehicle ahead. If the distance is less than the set value, the system automatically activates and the car symbol on the screen turns yellow.
The Opel Astra is also available with an optional latest-generation radar and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which automatically maintains a pre-set distance to the vehicle ahead. ACC automatically adapts the speed and follows according to the set safe distance; three distance settings are available (near - medium). ACC behaves like a regular cruise control if there is no vehicle ahead, but with additional application of brakes to maintain the set speed when going downhill. Icons on the instruments inform the driver of the set speed, the selected gap, and the appearance of a vehicle ahead.
Every third Astra customer chooses LED taillights to feel even more confident in the dark. However, Opel Astra customers not only care about safety, they strive for comfort and order the latest infotainment system. The second most popular equipment after the front camera is Navi 900 IntelliLink. About 55% of all Astra models sold in Europe are equipped with a state-of-the-art infotainment system with an eight-inch color touchscreen and built-in navigation. The maps cover the whole of Europe. In addition, the optional system, depending on the device, is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
To enjoy even more comfortable driving, every fourth Astra buyer orders AGR-certified (Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.) and multiple award-winning driver and front passenger seats. AGR seats have a massage function, ventilation and lateral support – a unique combination in the compact class.
