According to information from Rüsselsheim, in 2016 the company sold about 1.16 million cars, which is approximately 46,000 more than a year earlier. In percentage terms, the growth of Opel's European sales amounted to 4%. This was the highest figure since 2011.

Sales increased in 18 of 22 European markets, including Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland. Opel's share grew in 12 countries, while across Europe as a whole it remained almost at the same level — 5.73%.

The main growth driver for the brand was the new Opel Astra. Its sales reached 285,000 units, which is 25% more than in the previous year. The popularity of the model, recognized as the "European Car of the Year 2016", allows it to claim the status of the brand's bestseller.

"We chose the right strategy and managed to increase sales in 2016 despite the difficult market situation. In 2017, we look to the future with optimism and will continue to develop, betting on the launch of new in-demand models. We will make our presence known in the growing SUV segment with the new Crossland X and Grandland X," noted Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President of Sales and Aftersales.

Opel is halfway through its offensive strategy, which involves the release of 29 new models from 2016 to 2020. This year, the company plans to introduce seven new products — this stage is held under the motto "7 in 17".

In addition to the new generation of the flagship Insignia, which will be offered in three body styles — sedan (Insignia Grand Sport), station wagon (Insignia Sports Tourer) and crossover (Insignia Country Tourer) — the brand will present two models in the rapidly growing SUV segment: Crossland X and Grandland X. Also this spring, sales of the Ampera-e electric vehicle will start, and another new product of the year will be an attractive version of the Vivaro model.
