The hatchback will get a high-performance modification, Autocar reports. The work on the A45 model will be entrusted to the AMG tuning house. The public debut is expected in 2019. Among the main rivals are the Audi RS3 and BMW M2. In terms of dimensions, the A45 will be larger than its predecessor. To avoid increasing the weight of the car, a significant portion of the elements will be made of aluminum. Under the hood, there will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine. Power will exceed the 400 hp mark. The unit will be paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The new model will reach 100 km/h in less than four seconds.
Currently, a facelifted version of the current A-Class generation is sold on global markets. The base version is equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine. Its power is 102 hp, torque is 180 Nm. The most economical is considered the 1.5-liter diesel, producing 109 hp and 260 Nm. In the combined cycle, it consumes 3.5 liters of fuel per 100 km. In addition, specialists have increased the output of the 2.1-liter diesel unit to 177 hp. The A250 Sport version with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine has become more powerful — it now develops 218 hp.
The current top version, the A45 AMG, uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. Its power is 381 hp, torque is 475 Nm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. Thus, the A45 AMG holds the title of the most powerful production hatchback on the planet, surpassing the Audi RS3 Sportback.
