The vehicle recall campaign affects 3 Series cars manufactured from 2000 to 2006.
Malfunctions may occur due to the airbag deployment mechanism. It can tear the airbag cover and render it unusable. The number of recalled vehicles is distributed such that less than a third of all cars, approximately 574,000, were sold in America. Last spring, a recall campaign was already conducted there. At that time, about 42,000 vehicles were serviced.

The culprit of the problem, once again, is the Japanese company Takata. It is the one that produces and supplies airbags to a number of car manufacturers. As we have learned, since 2009, due to its fault, more than ten million vehicles of various brands have been recalled.
To date, manufacturers such as Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, BMW, as well as Ford and Chrysler have already faced quality issues with Takata products. At the request of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these companies have announced recalls of sold vehicles.
