Production of the new model will be established closer to the main target audience of this model – in the American city of Spartanburg (located in South Carolina). The Bavarians will invest about $1 billion in expanding the production capacity of this plant, and by 2016, 450 thousand cars will be assembled here annually.
The BMW X7, designed for seven full seating positions, will be designed on the basis of the new generation of the 7 Series sedan or the X5 crossover platform. It is expected that due to the extensive use of aluminum and high-strength steel, the mass of the crossover will be relatively small, which will have a positive effect on the handling, efficiency, and dynamics of the new model.

The powertrain lineup of the BMW X7 will include new-generation engines and hybrid units. Serial production is planned to begin no earlier than 2017, and the main sales markets for the BMW X7 will be China and the USA.
