Currently, tests are underway for automatic violation recording systems from two companies, and four more manufacturers have already submitted bids to participate in the tender. Therefore, our police will definitely not be left without the necessary equipment. At the first stage, it is planned to purchase approximately 5–5.5 thousand devices for all regions of Ukraine.
These systems will be installed on the most accident-prone sections of roads, so their effectiveness should be noticeable. The traffic police also count on the preventive effect of empty boxes that imitate auto-fixation posts, and of signs warning about video recording.
While testing of devices and fine-tuning of the mechanism for automatic sending of violation notifications are underway, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is simultaneously preparing a draft law that will regulate the operation of such systems. It should be submitted for consideration to the Verkhovna Rada no later than December 1 of the current year, which means drivers should expect the appearance of "letters of happiness" already next year.
