The new Volkswagen Amarok will be built on a frame developed for the Ford Ranger — this is the result of a partnership between Ford Motor and Volkswagen Group, which agreed to jointly create several models. In addition to pickups, the new Ford Transit Connect and Volkswagen Caddy will also appear on the shared platform.
Work on the Ranger and Amarok, including testing, is underway in Australia. As noted by Michael Bartsch, head of the Australian division of VW Group, externally these two vehicles will differ noticeably.
The new Amarok is expected to have a bolder and more muscular appearance. Under the hood will be Ford diesel engines — units of 2.0 and 3.0 liters, as well as a 10-speed automatic transmission. In addition, a hybrid modification and a "hot" version of the Amarok R with about 300 horsepower are possible.
