The new generation Mazda BT-50 is based on the Isuzu D-Max pickup, although previous generations of this model were based on the Ford Ranger platform. The pickup's length has been reduced to 5280 mm (-79), width has increased to 1870 mm (+21), and height has decreased to 1790 mm (-47). The payload capacity of the new model is 1065 kg.

The interior of the model has also been noticeably transformed and now boasts a new instrument panel and a 9-inch screen of an advanced media center.

Under the hood of the new Mazda BT50 is a three-liter Isuzu diesel engine producing 190 hp and 450 Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission with the same number of gears. The pickup comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available as an option.

Production of the new generation Mazda BT50 will be established at a plant in Thailand. Sales of the model will start closer to autumn.
