Mazda has started production of its debut electric vehicle at its plant in Hiroshima. Already next year, the pure electric version of the MX-30 will be joined by a modification with a rotary engine acting as a generator.
The electric powertrain of the Mazda MX-30 delivers 145 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, powered by a 35.5 kWh traction battery. The crossover's range is quite modest — just 200 kilometers on the WLTP cycle.
In Germany, the special First Edition Mazda MX-30 is available at a promotional price from 27,420 euros. After the promotion ends, the base price of the model will be 33,490 euros — that's more than 10,000 euros less than the American electric car Tesla Model 3.
Japanese buyers will receive their electric crossovers as early as this summer, while European customers will have to wait for deliveries until autumn.
