As Caradisiac reports, adapting the most powerful version of the Focus to stricter environmental standards will require significant financial investment. It was previously assumed that the new Focus RS would be equipped with a turbocharged engine producing around 400 horsepower, which is 50 horsepower more than the previous model. It was expected that the hot hatch would get a hybrid powertrain with an electric starter-generator, but this approach does not meet strict European environmental requirements.
According to plans, the new Ford Focus RS was supposed to debut this year, but due to difficulties in creating the powertrain, the premiere has been postponed indefinitely. There is a possibility that the RS version will disappear from the model's history altogether, since modernizing the engine will require additional costs, and the manufacturer is not yet ready to allocate them.
