The Germans themselves call this electric car their main premiere at the motor show. The first batch of hatchbacks called First Edition will be released in November at the plant in Zwickau with a circulation of 30,000 units, most of them are already reserved. The first cars will arrive at dealers in mid-2020.
The ID.3 became the first production electric car of the Germans, built on the new MEB platform. Volkswagen representatives compared the launch of this platform into production with the transition from Beetle to Golf. The design of the car is practically no different from the concept of the same name presented earlier. The place of special cameras was taken by the usual rear-view mirrors, and retractable door handles were replaced with ordinary ones. The drag coefficient is 0.267.
The five-door hatchback uses special flat batteries that are located under the floor of the car. This is done to increase the interior space of the car. In size, the new product is comparable to the Golf. The length of the new product is 4261 mm, width - 1809 mm, and height - 1552 millimeters. The wheelbase size is 2765 millimeters. The mass of the electric car is 1719 kilograms.
The full technical characteristics of the car have not yet been disclosed. At the moment it is known that the electric car will be offered to customers in three versions: with batteries of 45, 58 and 77 kWh, which will allow driving without recharging 330, 420 and 550 km respectively. For example, the cheapest Tesla model - Model 3 - has a range of 354 kilometers for standard versions. In March, the Americans were able to increase the range of the electric car to 523 kilometers.
The power of the electric motor is 150 and 204 horsepower. The maximum speed of the base version of the car is 160 km per hour. The battery charge for a range of 290 km can be replenished in half an hour using the fast charging system.
In the interior of the electric car, a large touchscreen display of the infotainment system appeared, which is responsible for controlling most functions, so the number of analog buttons and switches here is minimized. A similar solution can also be found on new Tesla electric cars. You can adjust the temperature in the cabin using a small slider at the bottom of the screen. The trunk volume of the hatchback is 380 liters.
The digital instrument panel of the hatchback is located directly on the steering column and displays information about speed, range, cruise control operation, as well as navigator instructions. The ID.3 lost the traditional automatic transmission selector: it was replaced by a small switch on the side of the instrument panel.
The base version of the First Edition is equipped with a satellite navigation system, heated front seats and steering wheel, as well as 18-inch alloy wheels. The Plus equipment also adds a rear camera, adaptive cruise control, keyless access and engine start, door handle lighting and matrix LED headlights. The top Max modification received a premium Beats audio system, a panoramic roof, a touchscreen display and 20-inch wheels.
