Spy photos of the prototype of the new model, taken on the Nürburgring track in Germany, were published by Autocar.

According to preliminary data, the appearance of the next "four" will be made in the style of the "older" coupe and convertible 8-Series. As before, the model will have a convertible version, however, unlike the current generation car, the new model will get a soft top instead of a hard one.

The new BMW 4-Series will be built on a modernized version of the modular CLAR platform, which implies the availability of both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. At the same time, unlike the 8-Series, the "four" will not be available with adaptive air suspension and a fully controlled chassis with rear-wheel steering.

The "four" will partially share the engine lineup with the 3-Series family. It will include gasoline and diesel engines with a displacement of two and three liters. The top one will be a three-liter six-cylinder twin-turbo unit with 510 hp, which will go to the "charged" modification - the M4.
