The crossover is built on the CLAR platform, which allows the car to be equipped with active anti-roll bars and all-wheel steering. Air suspension for the front and rear axles is also available for the car. In addition, the crossover can be equipped with an Off-Road package with four settings: "Sand", "Gravel", "Rocks", and "Snow". Each changes the algorithms of the gearbox, all-wheel drive system, responses to accelerator pedal presses, and the system itself selects the most optimal ground clearance.

The car has become larger than its predecessor. The length of the new X6 is 4935 mm, width is 2004 mm, and height is 1696 millimeters. The wheelbase size is 2975 millimeters. The car received a massive radiator grille that can be illuminated in the dark. At the rear, there are lights in the spirit of the 8-Series family, as well as a small spoiler on the trunk lid. The trunk volume is 580 liters.
Inside the car, a digital instrument panel with a diagonal of 12.3 inches, a large touchscreen display, and wireless charging are installed. The BMW X6 driver can be assisted by a smart assistant. It works on the same principle as Siri and "Alice", that is, it can process voice requests. To call the assistant, it is enough to say: "Hey, BMW". Also available to the driver are a gesture control system for car functions, cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, an emergency braking system, a parking assistance function, and a lane keeping system.

The new BMW X6 shares most of its components and units with the current X5 model. The engine range of the new model includes a 3.0-liter diesel engine with six cylinders. The engine power is 265 horsepower. Customers will also be offered a 3.0-liter gasoline unit with an output of 340 horsepower. In addition, the crossover can be equipped with a diesel unit of the same volume. The power of this engine is 400 horsepower.
The top version of the X6 received a 4.4-liter V8 gasoline unit with two turbochargers, developing 530 hp and 750 N·m of torque. With such an engine, the car accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The maximum speed is 250 km per hour. The gearbox is an eight-speed automatic. In the future, the model will have a "charged" M version with a 600-horsepower engine with a volume of 4.4 liters, as well as a version with a hybrid power plant with the ability to recharge batteries from a household electrical network.
European sales of the new BMW X6 will start at the end of this year. The car assembly will be established in American Spartanburg.
