The car met the claimed 5.7 seconds, which is 0.8 seconds better than the previous generation's result.

Under the hood of the Ford Focus ST is a 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger, producing 280 horsepower and 400 N·m. It is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, and from autumn 2019 a version with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission will be available.

Engineers introduced a system that reduces turbo lag: the throttle plate remains slightly open for three seconds after the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal. This speeds up torque build-up at low revs. A similar solution is used in the GT sports car and the "hot" F-150 Raptor pickup.
