Jürgen Stackmann, a member of the Volkswagen board of directors, explained to Automotive News that the postponement of the new Golf's launch is related to the need to refine complex software and safety systems. The model's software will receive updates remotely via a cloud platform, and for this, engineers had to develop special mechanisms to protect against cyberattacks.
The production of the eighth-generation Golf will be organized at the plant in Wolfsburg. Investments in the development of the model will amount to about 1.8 billion euros, and an additional approximately 3 billion euros will be allocated for the preparation of production lines.
