The photos were taken during road tests of the car in France. The model is expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Work on the new generation of the 1-Series line lasted five years. Under the hood, the car will have a two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 302 horsepower. A similar engine is installed on the sports modification of the X2 crossover with the M35i index.

The list of standard equipment will include the BMW Performance Control torque vectoring system. The sedan's trunk volume reaches 380 liters. Rear passenger legroom has increased by 33 millimeters.

The family is based on the modular UKL (Unter Klasse) architecture. This chassis first appeared in 2014 on the Mini hatchback, and later became the base for the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer compact van and the X1 and X2 crossovers.
