The updated Niro is equipped with a 1.6-liter T-GDi engine with direct fuel injection. The engine is paired with a lithium-ion polymer battery (on hybrid versions) with an energy reserve of 1.56 kWh (for Niro Hybrid) or 8.9 kWh (for Niro Plug-in Hybrid). The driving range on electric power alone for the Niro Plug-in Hybrid in urban conditions is up to 65 km.

The restyled crossover received the signature "tiger nose" radiator grille, new bumpers, and LED headlights. Inside, a 10-inch widescreen display and a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster screen appeared. Also, the restyled Niro received a tow hitch, allowing towing a trailer weighing up to 1300 kg.
European sales of the updated Kia Niro crossover will start in the second quarter of this year.
