While working on the concept, engineers drew inspiration from the beach buggies that appeared in California in the sixties. Particular attention was paid to the Meyers Manx model, created by Bruce Meyers, an American surfer and engineer, based on the Volkswagen Beetle.
The published teasers show that the Volkswagen buggy, devoid of doors and roof, will have reinforced underbody protection, suspension with high ground clearance, and large wheels with off-road tires.
The basis of the show car will be the MEB platform, created specifically for electric vehicles. The first production car on this platform will be an electric hatchback that will join the green I.D. lineup. Production of such electric vehicles will start in November of this year.
