The TCR variant received a two-liter turbo engine producing 290 hp (370 Nm), which is 45 hp more powerful than the engine of the standard Golf GTI and only 10 hp weaker than the all-wheel-drive hot hatch Golf R. The unit works together with a 7-speed robotized gearbox with two clutches. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes 5.6 seconds. The electronic speed limiter has been moved from 250 km/h to 260 km/h.

The Golf GTI TCR is equipped with a front-axle differential, 18-inch wheels, and an updated body aero kit, which includes a new front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and spoiler.
As an option, carbon fiber exterior mirror housings, adaptive suspension, and 19-inch wheels with semi-slicks are available.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is already available for order in Germany. Prices for the model start from 38,950 euros.
