Christian Strube, chief engineer of the Czech brand, shared details with Autocar.
As the specialist said, the new sports "Octavia" will use a scheme similar to that used on the Vision RS concept presented at the Paris Motor Show. The prototype's powertrain included a 150-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric unit with 102 horsepower. The total output reaches 245 horsepower.
The experimental hatchback accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds, and its top speed is 210 km/h. The electric motor is powered by a 13-kilowatt-hour battery, which is enough for 70 kilometers of driving without using the internal combustion engine (according to the NEDC cycle).
It is expected that the standard new-generation Skoda Octavia will be released in 2020, and its sports version will appear a year later.
