The new generation SL will be created by specialists from the Mercedes-AMG racing division, so it is not surprising that the model will be closely related to the AMG GT coupe. From the "donor", the roadster will receive the chassis and a carbon fiber driveshaft, and the SL body will likely become fully aluminum.
The line of power units will be inherited from the "E-Class", including the 570-horsepower engine installed on the top version of the E63 AMG.
It is also possible that a closed modification of the SL in a coupe body will return to the lineup — such versions have not been produced for more than three decades.
