The Patrol Police reminded that although the seasonal rule is no longer in effect, drivers are still obliged to turn on low beam headlights or daytime running lights when visibility deteriorates — at dusk, during rain, fog, or when driving in a convoy. This does not depend on the season or date.

So in practice, even after May 1, outside cities drivers will often have to turn on their lights, as there are many such situations on the roads. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Biloshytskyi.

“Previously, to mark a vehicle in daylight outside a populated area, from October 1 to May 1 it was necessary to turn on daytime running lights, and if the car's design did not include them — low beam headlights. Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 20.10.2023 No. 1105 canceled this time period, and now this rule applies constantly”, — noted Biloshytskyi.

It is also worth remembering: if the car does not have daytime running lights, low beam headlights are used. Previously, a fine of 425 hryvnias was provided for violating this requirement. And although the seasonal rule has been temporarily canceled, general safety requirements have not been canceled by anyone.

So, let's summarize: not mandatory — but mandatory. Take care of yourself and other road users.
