We are talking about expanding the functionality of the Unified State Web Portal, where, among other things, you can view information about vehicles registered in the country. So, if earlier the system published a set of data about cars without a VIN code, now it includes the vehicle identification number.

This was reported by the official website of the Cabinet of Ministers "Uryadovy Portal".

Adding VIN codes to the system will allow users to find out the key characteristics of the car (country of manufacture, color, body type, engine displacement and type, etc.), verify the authenticity of the vehicle registration certificate, and also determine the exact number of previous owners. The latter is especially important in the conditions of the Ukrainian secondary market, which has long been flooded with a lot of "junk".

As assured by the government, soon popular car verification services will link VIN codes and the information available through them to their resources. In theory, this should indeed make the car verification process more accurate and transparent.

The only downside is that for now, only information about vehicles registered since January 1, 2021 will be available, which is only 820 thousand vehicles.

It is worth noting that every vehicle in the world has a VIN code. It consists of 17 digits and is applied under the hood (on the cylinder block and on the partition between the hood and the cabin; always), in a special window at the bottom of the windshield (often), on the driver's door pillar (often), and under the floor trim near the driver's seat (less often).
