Actually, the electric ZAZ was built by the author of this very YouTube channel. Autoportal has previously mentioned this car in the publication “TOP-5 most interesting homemade electric cars in Ukraine”. At the time of writing the note in June, the creators of the car achieved acceleration to “hundred” in 4.9 seconds, but recently they managed to improve the result – to 4.4 seconds. The electric “hunchback” is powered by a drive from the first-generation Nissan Leaf.
So, as can be seen in the video, the ZAZ took part in two drag races against the Tesla “S”. The first time, the homemade electric car immediately pulled ahead after the start. The Model S was able to catch up and overtake it only when the speed reached 110 km/h, and the ZAZ driver stopped pressing the gas pedal.
In the second attempt, the situation almost repeated itself – the 965th dominated while the driver pressed the accelerator. Tesla was able to match it only at a speed of about 130 km/h. After that, the driver simply did not risk accelerating the car further.
