Volkswagen electric car in the voting overtook the new Toyota Yaris and the compact electric car Honda e, which took second and third places, respectively. This is already the fifth victory of Volkswagen in World Car of the Year – previously the award was received by Golf models (twice), Polo and Up.
Also announced the best cars in different categories. The best sports car of 2021 is the Porsche 911 Turbo, and in the premium segment the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class won. Honda e became the best city car, and the revived SUV Land Rover Defender received the design award.
Recall that the World Car of the Year competition has been held since 2004. The best cars of the year are chosen by a jury of 82 journalists representing 24 countries of the world. Last year, the big crossover Kia Telluride became the winner.
