Those wishing to scrap their car will receive a special grant of 2500 euros. This money can be used to buy an electric bicycle – the grant cannot be spent on other purposes.
Thus, in France they want to reduce the number of cars on the roads and encourage citizens to switch to eco-friendly vehicles. Naturally, such an offer will be more interesting to urban residents.
By the way, similar programs are already in place in Lithuania and Finland, but there a car can be exchanged not only for a bicycle, but also for a public transport pass.
The old car scrappage program is part of France's new climate legislation. Its goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
