In total, nine cars took part in the off-road battle – both relatively new and already discontinued. In particular, they tested a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva, 2013 Ford Explorer, 2008 Honda Pilot, 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2019 Kia Sorento, 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2018 Skoda Kodiaq, 2008 Subaru Tribeca, and 2014 Toyota Highlander.
Each car had to go through the same off-road section. The tests were not without surprises. For instance, the Subaru Tribeca crossover with permanent all-wheel drive did not perform at its best, but the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento pleasantly surprised.
