According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the German specialist will start his work at the company with four rings on the emblem on April 1, 2020. This will happen after he serves the mandatory six-month leave provided after the completion of his contract with the Bavarian automaker.
Markus Duesmann is 50 years old, born in the Münsterland region in northwestern Germany. Duesmann is educated as a mechanical engineer, and his first job was at Daimler. He has been working at the Bavarian company since 2007, and from October 2016 to July 2018 he was a member of BMW's board of management. Currently, Markus is responsible for procurement and supplier relations.
Duesmann's arrival is likely to contribute to more active operations of the Audi Sport racing division — Markus is considered a connoisseur of the "Queen of Motorsport" and has three years of experience with the BMW Sauber F1 team in Formula 1.
As head of Audi, Duesmann will replace Abraham Schot, who has been serving as interim CEO since June 2018. The Dutchman took the helm of the brand out of necessity, after Rupert Stadler was dismissed in connection with dieselgate. According to insiders, the 57-year-old Schot will move to a less demanding position in one of the Volkswagen Group divisions in April.
