According to Motor Authority, citing official representatives of the German manufacturer, the appearance of a "hot" hatchback in the new generation Mk8 body is expected in the coming years.
Currently, the Golf R is offered to customers with a 300-horsepower engine, which allows the car to reach 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The electronic limiter prevents the car from accelerating faster than 250 kilometers per hour, but when ordering the special Performance package, this threshold rises to 267 kilometers per hour. Additionally, this package includes a titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic and more efficient braking mechanisms.
Back in April, information appeared about the possible installation of a turbocharged engine with 400 horsepower on the Golf – in parallel with the work on the new Golf R, such development is underway at the Volkswagen research center located in Braunschweig. This all-wheel-drive hatchback with the 4Motion system, electronic differential lock simulation XDS+, and a special drift mode will likely hit the market under the name Golf R Plus and will compete with the Mercedes-AMG A 45.
