The decision was made during an emergency meeting, where a new chairman of the board of directors was also approved — Philippe Lafayet.
The urgent personnel changes were triggered by the unexpected arrest of the head of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, Carlos Ghosn, who was detained by Japanese police on November 19 on suspicion of tax evasion.
"Carlos Ghosn is temporarily unable to perform his duties, but remains chairman and chief executive officer. During this period, the board will meet for regular sessions under the leadership of the lead independent director," the official statement of the concern notes.
