Maintenance of electric vehicles

After analyzing data on the maintenance and repair of 19 million cars manufactured in 2016-2021, experts concluded that the maintenance of electric vehicles in the first few months is significantly more expensive than the maintenance of cars equipped with internal combustion engines. Thus, in the first three months, costs are 2.3 times higher, and after a year – 1.6 times higher.

René Stevens, Vice President of We Predict, sees the reason for this phenomenon in the emergence of new technologies that many car services are not familiar with: compared to fuel cars, specialists in maintenance and repair spend twice as much time on diagnosing electric vehicles, and 1.5 times more on repairs. Naturally, this is reflected in the cost of a standard hour and, accordingly, in the work order.

At the same time, it is important to understand that the cost of maintaining electric vehicles also depends on the specific manufacturer and model. Thus, after three months of operation, the maintenance costs for the Ford Mach-E amounted to $93 per vehicle, which is significantly lower than the cost of the same Audi E-tron – $366 per vehicle. For the Porsche Taycan, the price is $667 per vehicle, and for the Jaguar I-Pace – $834 per vehicle.
