China has held the world's leading position in the number of electric vehicles for the past ten years — there are currently 4.2 million such cars. More than 3.2 million electric cars are in use on EU roads, and 1.7 million in the USA.

Among European countries, Germany leads with 703 thousand electric vehicles. The second position is occupied by Great Britain with 447.5 thousand, followed by Norway (433.6 thousand) and France (413.2 thousand).

Norway also stands out in terms of density: there are 81 electric vehicles per thousand residents. For comparison, in China this figure is only 3 electric cars per thousand people, in the USA — 5.2, and in Germany — 8.5.

Interest in electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids worldwide is not waning. For example, in China in 2020, 1.25 million such cars were purchased, whereas in 2015 — only 206 thousand, that is, six times less. In the European market over the same period, sales grew 7.3 times — from 187 thousand to 1.37 million units.
