Tesla Model Y is the model that Tesla places special hopes on. Its production started at the beginning of last year, and so far the new product is being produced only in the USA and China, and from the summer of this year it should also go into production at the plant in Berlin, which is currently under construction.

Even before the launch of the car, Musk stated that he intends to make it the most popular car in the world. Its closest sibling, the platform-sharing sedan Tesla Model 3, which has been produced since 2017, already has certain successes: it is currently the best-selling electric car and the best-selling premium sedan in the world (it has already managed to overtake such eminent rivals as BMW 3-Series and Mercedes E-Class). However, becoming the manufacturer of the most popular car in the world among all is a somewhat different task. To win this title, Tesla must reach a sales level of Model Y of about 1.1 million units per year – that is how many Toyota Corolla were shipped last year. The Japanese bestseller has been firmly holding the title of the most popular car on the planet for several years, and taking away this status will not be an easy task.

Experts believe that Tesla Model Y really has every chance to become the most popular car in the world in the coming years – the crossover is just "gaining momentum" in the market, while demand for it is steadily growing. There is no separate sales statistics for this model, but it is known that last year Tesla shipped a total of 442 thousand units of Model 3 and Model Y to customers, while the manufacturer expects that sales of these cars will increase by 50% every year: that is, this year about 663,000 units will be produced, and next year – about a million.

By the way, a few words about the financial report itself: Tesla's revenues for the first quarter of 2021 increased by 73.4% and reached $10.39 billion, net profit – $438 million versus $16 million for the first three months of last year. Last year the company produced 500 thousand cars, and in the first quarter of this year – 180.3 thousand cars (Model 3, Y, S and X).
