According to Automotive News Europe, citing insider sources, the French automaker intends to focus its efforts on the production of crossovers and vehicles with electric powertrains. In this regard, models that are not in high demand — minivans, as well as large sedans and station wagons — are no longer part of the company's plans.
The final decision to discontinue production of Scenic, Espace, and Talisman has not yet been made, but press representatives have no doubt that the fate of these cars is already sealed. The production capacities of the Renault plant in Douai, which will be freed up, will be redirected to the assembly of electric vehicles.
It is worth noting that Renault is currently in a difficult financial situation, due to the detention last year of former alliance head Carlos Ghosn, as well as the current situation related to the coronavirus pandemic.
