The list of outsiders included quite a few models belonging to well-known global brands.
Experts from the HealthyStuff organization conducted a laboratory study, testing the plastic trim elements of the interiors of 204 new cars popular in the US and produced in 2011-2012. Based on these tests, lists of cars with the most and least safe interiors in terms of toxicity were determined.
The palm of victory for the most eco-friendly interior was won by the Honda Civic 2012 model year. The success of this model was ensured by the absence of elements containing bromine compounds and PVC in the interior trim, as well as a very small amount of heavy metals in the air inhaled by owners of new Civics.
Honda has patented a fresh material for covering interior surfaces. Moreover, it can change its appearance depending on the angle at which it is viewed.
The list of ten models with the cleanest interiors also included the Honda CR-Z (2011), Acura RDX (2012), and Acura ZDX (2012).
