The main focus in sales of the new model will be on these markets — it is planned to sell about 70% of the total volume there. The public showing of the car will take place at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, and Ukrainian customers will be able to get the model as early as June of that year.
World premiere
Since 2005, interest in all-wheel-drive vehicles has been steadily growing worldwide. In our country, SUVs have already won the love of motorists: their share exceeds 20% of the market, with the bulk coming from compact crossovers.
In China and Western Europe, the SUV segment accounts for only a tenth of the market, but there is much more model diversity. For the Chinese, the main criterion when choosing a car is status. Europeans, where demand is shifting towards all-wheel-drive cars of classes C and D (while segment E is shrinking), want versatility, striking design, and environmental care.
The Peugeot 4008 is conceived as a response to these market trends and should worthily represent the brand on the international stage.
Expressive design
The model was created through the joint efforts of the PSA concern and Mitsubishi, but its appearance is quite "lion-like." The new signature style of the brand is successfully embodied in the 4008: here you have the "floating" radiator grille and the "predatory" look of the LED optics, which echoes the rear lights styled with three "claws."
The off-road essence is manifested in the massive grille, sill protection, and widened wheel arches that easily accommodate larger-diameter wheels with original rims.
The smooth lines of the hood and the side stamping that stretches across the entire body to the rear fender and captures the taillight — these details are meant to emphasize the power and dynamism of the new model.
Premium feel and style
The designers have tried to endow the model with the elegance characteristic of premium-class cars.
In the exterior trim, there is room for chrome elements, and inside, the atmosphere is created by materials: soft plastic on the front panel and instrument hood, a lacquered black insert on the center console.
The panoramic roof fills the cabin with light during the day, and in the evening, second-row passengers have access to LED reading lights.
The Peugeot 4008 with its bright appearance is quite capable of establishing itself in the compact crossover class. Rich equipment — keyless access Open & Go, 18-inch alloy wheels, multimedia with touchscreen, and rearview camera — shows what Peugeot envisions as a modern high-level all-wheel-drive vehicle.
Versatility and comfort
The 4008 is partially based on the platform of the 4007 model, but thanks to reduced overhangs, it has become 30 cm shorter. At the same time, the long wheelbase and wide track are retained so that front and rear passengers have plenty of space.
The dimensions of the new model — 4.34 m in length, 1.80 m in width, and 1.63 m in height — make it truly practical. Compactness, providing excellent maneuverability, is combined with a spacious interior, making the car suitable for both daily commutes and long trips.
Electronic all-wheel drive
For the all-wheel-drive version of the 4008, three transmission modes are provided: "2WD" — front-wheel drive, "4WD" — all-wheel drive, and "LOCK" — with the clutch locked on the rear axle.
In "4WD" and "LOCK" modes, the redistribution of torque between the axles is handled by electronics.
When selecting "LOCK," the drive to all wheels becomes permanent, and the torque on the rear axle increases.
It is expected that all-wheel-drive versions will account for more than 80% of all 4008 sales. In some countries, including European states and Ukraine, the car will be offered exclusively in the 4x4 version.
The engine lineup of the Peugeot 4008 includes four engines:
Petrol:
- 1.6 L, 85 kW (116 hp) / 152 Nm — 5-speed manual transmission;
- 2.0 L, 113 kW (150 hp) / 198 Nm — 5-speed manual transmission or CVT.
Diesel HDi:
- 1.6 L HDi FAP, 82 kW (112 hp) / 270-280* Nm — 6-speed manual transmission;
- 1.8 L HDi FAP, 110 kW (150 hp) / 300 Nm — 6-speed manual transmission.
*Briefly, in overboost mode.
In Europe, the 4008 will be sold only with diesels, but for other markets where the brand is present, the set of engines will be determined by customer preferences.
Thanks to the low CO2 emissions of the diesel HDi and the petrol 1.6 L, the Peugeot 4008 is among the leaders in the segment in terms of environmental friendliness.
The modern all-wheel-drive 4008 should feel equally comfortable in city traffic and off-road.
The Peugeot 4008 will arrive on the Ukrainian market with both petrol and diesel engines. Details about the engines and trim levels available for our country will be announced in the first quarter of 2012.
