Swedish car manufacturer Volvo Car Corporation has introduced new smartphone software designed for owners of its vehicles. Thanks to this application, drivers can interact with their vehicle remotely using devices based on Apple's iOS or the Android operating system.
Thus, the company offers European customers one of the most complete and convenient ways of remote monitoring and control of the car, available from anywhere and at any time.
Stefan Jacoby, who holds the position of President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation, noted that the company's cars are created with consideration for people's needs and lifestyles. He emphasized that the desire to provide the driver with an ergonomic and understandable environment is part of a broader goal — to give a sense of peace and full control. Therefore, it is natural that customers want to keep their finger on the pulse even after leaving the car in the parking lot.
This mobile application is another stage in the development of connectivity services for Volvo owners. It expands the capabilities of the already known Volvo On Call system, which was originally created for automatic connection with emergency services in the event of an accident or other emergency. Today, this service operates in 12 European countries, as well as in Russia.
Now the system's functionality is significantly expanded. Owners of new Volvo cars, starting from 2012 models, which have Volvo On Call in their configuration, can download the updated application. It opens access to a wide range of remote control functions via iPhone or Android smartphone.
Downloading the program is free and is done through the official app stores for the respective platforms. The interface is designed so that the user can easily and intuitively communicate with the car at a distance. The developers also paid special attention to issues of personal data protection and system reliability.
According to Mr. Jacoby, this is not just a technical innovation, but the first step in implementing the company's communication strategy. He stressed that Volvo is building a bridge to the future, and soon this application will receive even more impressive features.
The new application offers users the following capabilities:
- Car finder. The system shows the car's location on a map, and a digital compass helps orient in the direction of travel. If necessary, you can activate a sound signal or turn indicators to make it easier to find the car.
- Remote door locking. The smartphone screen displays the status of all doors and windows, and the driver can lock or unlock the car with a simple touch on the touchscreen.
- Control of the auxiliary heater. If the car is equipped with such a device, it can be turned on or scheduled directly from the mobile phone.
- Data from the instrument panel. The function provides access to information about fuel level, driving range, average fuel consumption, speed, as well as total and trip mileage.
- Technical diagnostics. The application checks the general condition of the car and displays data on the smartphone screen about the serviceability of lamps, brake and coolant levels, as well as engine oil level and pressure.
- Logbook. The program stores detailed information about each trip over the last 40 days. Data can be exported to Excel format, which will be convenient, in particular, for fleet owners.
- Basic car information. The screen can show basic information such as model, registration number, and VIN code.
- Security alarm. In case of alarm activation, the driver will instantly receive a notification on their smartphone.
Future plans
Volvo Cars has already announced the appearance of additional connectivity services in the near future. Stefan Jacoby summarized that the new application turns Volvo On Call from a simple emergency call system into a convenient tool for increasing comfort. He expressed confidence that this will contribute to the growth of system sales and help expand the circle of buyers in the future.
It should be noted that the information in this material concerns the international model range of Volvo Cars. The described functions and equipment may be additional options. Technical characteristics of cars may differ depending on the country and may change without prior notice.
