Mazda CX-5: prices and specifications

2 generations Country of origin: Japan

First generation Mazda CX-5 (since 2011)

The Mazda CX-5 became the company's first production model in the new KODO design language, which translates from Japanese as "Soul of Motion." The "CX" index indicates its belonging to the class of sport crossovers, while the number "5" denotes the model's compact dimensions.

The decision to start the model lineup renewal with a compact crossover was driven by the growing popularity of this segment. The brand's chief designer, Masashi Nakayama, who worked on the Shinari prototype that laid the foundations of the KODO style, admitted that the car's features were inspired by the grace and dynamism of cheetahs. In spring 2011, the Minagi concept was shown at the Geneva Motor Show, giving an idea of the future production crossover.

The production version of the Mazda CX-5 debuted in autumn 2011 in Frankfurt. The manufacturer stated that by the end of 2012, the new model would completely replace the previous mid-size crossover CX-7 in global markets.

In Ukraine, the crossover was introduced in summer 2012. The car is equipped with Skyactive technologies, which reduce the weight of components without sacrificing efficiency, economy, or safety. The chassis, transmissions, engines, and body are built according to these principles.

For the Ukrainian market, a 2.0-liter Skyactive-G gasoline engine was offered (in other markets, also a 2.2-liter Skyactive-D turbodiesel). It was paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with manual mode. The base version had front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive with an electromagnetic clutch was optionally available.
