The Mazda 3, which replaced the Mazda 323, first appeared in 2003. The model is built on the same platform as the Ford Focus. The car is produced in hatchback and sedan versions. In Japan, this model is known as the Axela. In 2006, a "hot" MPS modification was developed based on the hatchback. In 2009, the second generation of the Mazda 3 was unveiled, featuring a design similar to the larger "6" model.
