Audi A6: prices and specifications

15 generations Country of origin: Germany

The Audi A6 is a business-class car that replaced the Audi 100, which was produced from 1968 to 1994. In the name, 'A' indicates the Audi brand, and the number '6' denotes the car's class.

The decision to develop this model was made by Audi management as part of updating the model range in the early 1990s. By 1992, test samples were ready, which were then tested on roads in Europe and the USA for two years. The public debut of the Audi A6 took place in 1994 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The car was offered in two body types: sedan and Avant wagon. It was built on the global Volkswagen C4 platform, equipped with gasoline and diesel engines of its own production, and optionally with the Quattro all-wheel drive system. In addition to the standard version, a 'charged' S6 modification was produced in the same body styles, distinguished by boosted engines.

In 1997, the second generation of the Audi A6 was introduced. It was also produced in sedan and wagon body styles, but now on the new Volkswagen C5 platform. The car received new gasoline and diesel engines, a six-speed manual transmission, and a continuously variable transmission. From 1999, the Allroad Quattro version appeared — an off-road wagon with increased ground clearance, air suspension, and unpainted bumpers. Production of the 'charged' S6 and S6 Avant continued, and a new 'supercharged' RS6 debuted in sedan and wagon body styles. In 2002, the model was updated: headlights, taillights, and the radiator grille were changed.

The third generation of the Audi A6 was released in 2004. The exterior design, developed by Walter de Silva, featured a vertical radiator grille. The car became larger and was based on the Volkswagen C6 platform. Alongside the standard versions, the A6 Allroad Quattro, S6, and RS6 continued to be produced. In 2008, all modifications of the model underwent another facelift.

The fourth generation appeared on the market in 2011. It is built on the Volkswagen MLB platform, and its exterior and interior resemble the Audi A8. Engines and transmissions are borrowed from the A7 model. In Ukraine, this generation appeared in 2012 in sedan, A6 Avant wagon, A6 Allroad, and S6 sedan body styles. The car is equipped with gasoline (2.0 and 2.8 liters), diesel (2.0 and 3.0 liters), and hybrid (2.0 liters) engines. They work in conjunction with a six-speed manual, seven-speed automatic, or continuously variable transmission. Drive is front or all-wheel.
