Audi A7 is a business-class car that is called a "four-door coupe" in some markets, by analogy with the Volkswagen CC. The model returned Audi to the premium hatchback segment, where the brand had not been represented since the mid-1970s, when the Audi 100 coupe was there. In the designation "A7", the letter "A" stands for the brand, and the number "7" indicates belonging to the European E-class.
History of creation and debut
In the mid-2000s, Audi management decided to add a premium hatchback to the model range. Engineers worked on the technical part, and the exterior design was developed by chief designer Stefan Sielaff, who proposed a recognizable design for the rear of the car. The basis was the Volkswagen MLB platform, which was modified, and the engines were borrowed from the Audi A6. The result was the Audi Sportback concept, shown in 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show. After that, the model was tested on the roads of Europe and North America.
The world premiere of the Audi A7 took place in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show. The "charged" version of the Audi S7 debuted in 2011 in Frankfurt, and its chassis was taken from the Audi S6. In 2013, at the Detroit Auto Show, the Audi RS7 was presented with a boosted 4.0-liter engine.
Audi A7 in Ukraine
In Ukraine, the model appeared in 2011, and the S7 version in 2012. The standard A7 for the Ukrainian market is equipped with gasoline turbo engines with a displacement of 2.8 and 3.0 liters, with the three-liter unit using TFSI technology. The Audi S7 is equipped with a 4.0-liter gasoline turbocharged TFSI engine. The engines of both versions work with a continuously variable transmission or a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. Drive — front or all-wheel drive.
