Audi A5: prices and specifications

Audi A5 is a business-class car built on the Audi A4 platform. The model succeeded the Audi 80, which was discontinued in 1996. The letter "A" in the name indicates the Audi brand, while the number "5" denotes its classification as D-segment according to European standards.

In the mid-2000s, Volkswagen management decided to return to the business coupe segment, which had been left vacant after the discontinuation of the Audi 80. The new model was built on the global Volkswagen MLB platform. Initially, only a two-door coupe body style was planned, but later it was decided to add a convertible to the lineup — it was meant to replace the discontinued Audi A4 convertible.

The world premiere of the Audi A5 took place in 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car featured a coupe body, with design borrowed from the Nuvolari quattro concept, presented a year earlier and developed by Walter de Silva. The company immediately showed two versions: the standard and the "hot" Audi S5. The A5 convertible debuted in 2009 — it had a fabric folding roof, unlike the metal roof of the Volkswagen Eos. This modification also came in standard and S versions. In the same year, the five-door liftback A5 Sportback appeared. In 2010, the most powerful version — the RS5 — was released, available only as a coupe.

In 2011, the entire Audi A5 family, except for the RS5, underwent a facelift. Changes affected the front headlights, rear lights, and front bumper. The updated lineup was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

In Ukraine, the updated Audi A5 lineup appeared in mid-2012. Both standard and high-performance versions of the model are available on the local market.

Modifications are equipped with gasoline engines of 1.8 and 2.0 liters, as well as a diesel engine of 3.0 liters — all with turbocharging. They are paired with a six-speed manual, a six-speed automatic, or a seven-speed dual-clutch robotic gearbox. Drive is front or all-wheel drive.
